Do you want to straighten your teeth but would prefer not to wear conventional braces? Invisalign could be a great solution for you.
Invisalign is an adult-oriented aligners system which may also be suitable for some teenagers. Treatment consists of wearing a series of clear BPA free plastic aligners designed to fit tightly over your teeth and which gradually move them into straighter positions predetermined in your treatment plan. Treatment typically takes a year, but it can take longer depending on the problems requiring correction. Cosmetically oriented problems can sometimes be corrected in a matter of months.
How Is Treatment Planned?
Initially, we will examine your teeth and jaws to make sure Invisalign is appropriate and will provide the desired results. Invisalign treatment is planned using specialised software and digital images of your teeth captured with our intra-oral scanner (a tiny digital camera). The images are manipulated so gradually your teeth will straighten during treatment. One of the nice things about Invisalign is that you can preview these images, showing how your smile looks now and how it will appear once treatment is completed. It’s an excellent way to see the effectiveness of Invisalign and most people find the process interesting and exciting.
What to Expect during Invisalign Treatment?
You must wear the aligners for a minimum of 22 hours every day, ideally only removing them for meals and for brushing and flossing. Each set is worn for two weeks after which time you move onto the next set in the series, continuing in this way until your teeth are straightened.
Invisalign is popular because treatment is extremely easy and predictable, and has minimal impact on everyday life. You don’t need to make any dietary changes, and you can brush and floss your teeth normally. You will need to come and see us regularly for short appointments so that we can make sure treatment is progressing as we have planned.
